Commissions.....

Thu May 8, 2008, 1:31 PM
It always seem to happen when I put one up, even an old one. I start getting requests too do them.

Nothing against anyone, but I am no longer doing them. I did a lot of the old ones for some extra cash. Some were sort of fun, others were a pain in the butt. Any new ones posted are me just finishing off my last few.

Maybe this will help. If I did decide to do one, the price for a single character would now be $300. That's just for a character, no background or anything. If you want more it would cost more. Now maybe the notes will stop a bit;)

As for requests. Unless I specifically ask for them (I haven't yet) I won't do them. Please remember that I might not like the same things that you do and since most of the stuff on here is just for my enjoyment, why would I want to draw something I don't like? i do that all the time at my job. I don't really enjoy drawing comics like I used to. The adaptions are a bit different, I'd rather be doing my own stuff, but I have to eat. Adaptions from book I like would seem like a great things but since I don't own it something always seems to creep in and screw it up. Frank has been good so far, I've been asked to keep drawing it after the first 5. I'mnot sure yet, I really liked the second book so I might stick around, all the cool stuff happens at the end;)

My ultimate goal is to do illustrated novels or books similar to the Dinotopia stuff. I've done comics for over 15 years, I will have to either move on or retire eventually.

Best,

Brett

I don't have the gall to ask artists better than I am for commissions. Besides, the best kinds of commissions are the ones between friends. <3

I have to say, Brett, that I've enjoyed most of your work over the last 15 years (at least one ones I've seen). I've always liked your style (and I'm still looking for the funds to finally get your Anita Blake work). However, i can also understand how you could start seeing comic artistry as more "work" than fun. Perhaps someday you could breakout and start doing some of your own stuff, something more original that you yourself created. I think that'd be very interesting to see.

LOL! Nah, it's what always happens when I put up a commission. I've been meaning to do a journal about it for awhile:)

Alot of comic pros will do them. I just don't feel the need anymore. I'd rather just do my own stuff.

I do have a camarasaurus that I haven't colored yet. There are a few of the armored sauropods that I want to take a crack at. The biggest issue I have with them id they all look mostly the same or we only have a few bits of them.
