Orphans and Copyright...

Sat Apr 12, 2008, 11:46 AM
Well I just found out about this today. There is something called the Orphan Works bill going through congress right now and guess what they are planning on screwing us poor artist again. Go here for all the info:

If you're too lazy to read let me sum up. Basically if someone wants to use your work and can't easily find you (they decide how easy) they can use it without paying you or penalties. Also if you do try to sue them you can only get the licensing fee, no court costs out of them. It basically sucks to be us. Go here for more:

I'm getting ready to move to Mexico.

Well, there's also this to consider: [link]

I still don't want it to pass . . . but I'm not flipping out as much as I was before. I don't know.

Well since I've had lots of my stuff stolen, I think I'll panic a bit;) But if it does go through, all my original stuff comes off DA (Jess says to put a copyright on it but that would be to easy;)). I'll be forced to make a website with my email on it, which I don't want to do because I like to use DA for all that, it's so much easier and my email box doesn't get filled with 'I like your work!'

I'm sorry but anything that screws over the creator of the art is bad. If you actually read the info they do state what the bill says and it is bad.

I've already signed the petition, and emailed all my friends to do the same and pass on the word. Fucking government bastards, and I'm not even American... although it would affect me too, so death to the legislation.

Stop it. Everyone and their dog has been whining about this and almost everyone has it wrong.

That's what I was planning to do too if it got passed, amongst other things. But hopefully it'll get smashed down, as it always has thus far :/

I read the info from the IPA. If your willing to have your rights taken away then that fine. I have enough problem keeping my art from being stolen every few weeks the last thing I need is for these people to rip me off AND make money off it.

How about some info as to why everyone has it wrong?
