I am not the all knowing Atheist man.

Fri Mar 21, 2008, 10:05 AM
So I've gotten dragged into a discussion that Atheism is a religion. It is not, nore is is a belief system or a way of live or a moral code or a value system. I can't answer for every Atheist out there since they might not have the same ideas I do. I have examined the evidence, processed it and come to a conclusion. this is my conclusion and solely my own. There is no initiation or rights of passage. I do not talk to other Atheists (except the ones here that post comments.) I can not answer every question since I don't know everything.

I am not trying to exterminate religion. I get hat some need the comfort of being reunited with loved ones, that the universe is looking out for them, that somebody will always love them. I ONLY WANT THE SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. I'm not looking to convert anyone, just correct some of the gross lies I hear to the misinformed. I'm beginning to think that in order to understand an Atheist you have to actually be one or live with one.

I don't care what you believe in, just don't close your mind completely to what the human race has accomplished, the knowledge we've amassed. Id like others to see the evidence and finally relize evolution is a fact. That the bible/koran/tora can't be taken literally, or that you can believe in God and the way he works is through evolution. But I know that won't happen.

Best,

Brett

Atheism is the position that either affirms the nonexistence of gods[1] or rejects theism.[2] When defined more broadly, atheism is the absence of belief in deities,[3] alternatively called nontheism.[4] Although atheism is often equated with irreligion, some religious philosophies, such as secular theology and some varieties of Buddhism such as Theravada, either do not include belief in a personal god as a tenet of the religion, or actively teach nontheism.

i like your attitude. i'm personally agnostic, which is basically someone who believes that there is a god, but does not believe the bible or the church. I honestly dont like religious fanatics because they force their belief on you. christians, protestants, katholics are the worst is what i think personally. but thats just me.

I was always under the idea that atheism boiled down to saying there is no supreme being / higher consciousness / ultimate power.
I suppose the debate will continue until people actually die and find out if there is a supreme entity or there nothingness at the end of the life. It's mainly "prove there is a (supreme being / entity)" against "prove that (it) doesn't exist." I could probably make a good argument for either side.

Most people's value system(s) come from what they are exposed to early in life, usually their parents.
I've pretty much boiled down the idea of "being good" is trying to leave the world a little better place than what you found it.
LOL! I've been getting notes and emails alerting me to this stuff. I'm only outspoken because someone has to be in the artistic world. We can't just sit quietly in the corner and hope that religion leaves us alone because it will not. Agnostics have to worry about these crazies as well because they willtry to force you to believe too. I think that's why the Atheist/Agnostics get along so well:)
hm i didnt think of it that way, but that makes sense!
well. the crazies blame us for everything thats wrong in the world or with their kids and that's why i think we both have to fight back. it certainly isn't the case, they have to learn to take better care of their children.

Man, I can just tell you live in America  Also: artists don't know sh... "fecal matter" about religion, just like anyone else for that matter. If I want to know something about religion, I'll go see a Doc at a university! That's not a personal swipe, btw ;)

A lot of my closest friends are atheists, and a few of them are very pragmatic in regards to religion. "If it works for you, go for it". I always have to laugh when I see others say atheism is all about destroying the concept of god/the spirit. Religions first a primary goal should be to teach people the difference between bad and good. It's a shame that history shows us that they use the punishment (hell) and reward (heaven) system, exactly how I trained my dog.

Of course I have no place to argue. As a pentacle-wearing, nature worshipping pagan, I'm seen as a step below atheists in they eyes of the moral right.

I'm not an Atheist, I'm Agnostic, but I like people like you have that kind of attitude. I'm not too sure there ISN'T anything out there, but I also want people to realize that evolution is fact and you can't take books like the Bible seriously. I alshave friends who are Atheist and Christian, but I'm lucky enough to have friends who have a much more open minded out look on those kind of things. AND, the Christian ones aren't out to convert either. Same with me.

I don't believe in God, but I'm not saying there ISN'T one. That's how I view Agnositicism. I think there's energy out there, but I'm NOT giving it a name. It just causes problems for me in the long run. *shrug* Not that there's a problem with believing in God, but not being a Christian. I have two firends that are like that.
